Fantasyland Strategy

The ultimate OFC advantage and how to exploit it

What is Fantasyland?

Fantasyland (FL) is a special bonus state in Pineapple OFC. When you qualify, your next hand is dealt all at once (14 cards), giving you complete information to set the optimal hand.

Entering Fantasyland

Qualification Requirement

Set QQ (pair of Queens) or better in your top row without fouling.

This means KK, AA, or any trips also qualify.

When to Go for FL

  • Safe: You already have QQ+ in your opening 5 cards with supporting cards
  • Moderate Risk: You have one Q and strong middle/bottom support
  • High Risk: Chasing QQ without seeing any Queens yet

When NOT to Chase FL

  • • Your middle/bottom rows are weak or incomplete
  • • You'd need to place weak cards in middle to make QQ+ work
  • • Opponent is already in FL (they'll likely stay, reducing your advantage)

Staying in Fantasyland

Once in FL, you can stay for additional hands by achieving any one of these:

Top Row

Trips

Three of a kind

Middle Row

Full House+

FH, Quads, SF, RF

Bottom Row

Quads+

Four of a kind or better

FL Stay Strategy

With 14 cards, you often have multiple ways to stay. Prioritize:

  1. Can I make trips on top? (Easiest and most reliable)
  2. Can I make quads on bottom? (Often available with 14 cards)
  3. Can I make a full house in middle? (Requires specific cards)

Playing Your FL Hand

Step 1: Identify Stay Options

Before setting anything, check if you can stay in FL. Look for trips (any three of a kind for top), quads (for bottom), or full house ingredients (for middle).

Step 2: Maximize Royalties

With perfect information, optimize your royalty collection. Don't waste royalty-earning hands—if you have a flush, make sure it's in a row where it counts.

Step 3: Never Foul

With 14 cards and full information, there's no excuse to foul. Double-check that your hands are in ascending order before confirming.

Step 4: Consider Opponent

Your opponent plays blind to your cards. They might take risks chasing FL. Set strong enough hands to beat aggressive play.

The Value of Fantasyland

Fantasyland is worth approximately 5-8 extra points per hand:

  • • Higher royalties from optimal hand setting
  • • Guaranteed no-foul
  • • Opponent plays with less information
  • • Potential to chain multiple FL hands

However, risking a foul (-10+ points) to enter FL is usually a bad trade.
